Amnesty international together with Rights and Accountability in Development (RAID) and ESCR- Net prepared and disseminated a joint statement in support of the Norms during the 60th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights in April 2004.

Nearly 200 Non Governmental Organization's, trade unions, cooperatives and 175 individuals (including Members of the European Parliament and academics) endorsed the Statement of Support which was then delivered at the Commission.

With this action, members of the civil society urged the Commission to refrain from any rushed judgement or consideration of the Norms on the basis of inadequate or insufficient information. Governments, the business community, unions and civil society should study them carefully. The discussion of the Norms should therefore continue in the proper context and including all relevant parties in a transparent and participatory process.
